Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the winter seat of Maa Ganga in Mukhwa, Uttarakhand, on Thursday, offering prayers at the sacred temple. He was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who also received him at the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.
During his visit, PM Modi took in the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains in Mukhwa and interacted with the locals. CM Dhami emphasized that this visit is crucial in placing Mukhwa on the global tourism map and reinforcing the cultural and religious heritage of the state. He expressed, “We are all proud to witness this historic moment in Mukhwa. On behalf of all the people of the state, a hearty welcome and congratulations to the illustrious Prime Minister on his winter visit to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.”
PM Modi will also flag off a trek and bike rally and address a gathering at a public function in Harsil later in the day. Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to boosting tourism in Uttarakhand, aiming to strengthen the state’s economy through the promotion of tourism.
“We are committed to further strengthening the economy of the state by promoting tourism in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. In this connection, I will get the opportunity to worship Maa Ganga in Mukhwa tomorrow morning at around 9:30 am. After this, I will communicate with my family members in Harshil,” PM Modi wrote in a post on ‘X’.
The Prime Minister also shared his excitement about visiting the Mukhwa temple, famous worldwide for its spiritual significance and beauty. “I am very excited to visit the winter residence of the pure and pure Mother Ganga in Mukhwa. This holy place is famous all over the world for its spiritual significance and amazing beauty. Not only this, it is a unique example of our resolve of ‘heritage as well as development,'” he stated.
This visit comes as part of the Uttarakhand government’s Winter Tourism initiative, which has already attracted thousands of devotees to the winter seats of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The program aims to promote religious tourism and boost the local economy, benefiting homestays, tourism businesses, and the community at large.
